Edward Omotoso: Elections co-Chair

Edward Omotoso currently serves as a part-time Senior Special Advisor at the United Nations (UN) in New York, following his retirement after a 34-year career working for the UN and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). Among previous positions, Edward was a Director, UN Resident Co-ordinator, and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in some countries.

He was Secretary or Executive Secretary of several major UN global Conferences and gatherings around the world, including Councils, Commissions and Committees of the UN General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council, at UN Headquarters in New York, Geneva, Rome, Vienna, and other locations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

On special leave from the UN, he worked for five years as a senior official at the OPEC Secretariat in Vienna, Austria. Edward has served as President of the Association of Former International Civil Servants (of the United Nations system) in New York. He is a Life Honorary Member of the Association’s Governing Board.

He holds an Honors degree in Law (LL.B. (Hons.)) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London, and an M.S. degree from the Graduate School of Journalism, Columbia University, New York City. His HKS Executive Education course was in Leadership for the 21st Century.
